The truth must be told.

We stand for knowledge equity.

Reflektor is a mission-driven creative studio, based in Sofia, Bulgaria.
We use art, science and new media to foster social change. We work with young people and disadvantaged communities and try to deconstruct what lies behind social exclusion, human rights, social conflicts and systemic oppression.

Our mission is to elevate public discussions on social issues and promote critical thinking, creativity and freedom of expression as vital tools for shaping a better future.

Mindscapes

Mindscapes is about the mental health of young people. The initiative aims to support teenagers and young adults in their struggles with mental disorders like PTSD, ADHD, stress and anxiety, depression, addictions and more.

Sofia Neighbourhood

Sofia Neighbourhood collects people’s reflections on poverty, society and community interactions. The project aims to raise awareness of current social challenges and foster the voice of Sofia's citizens.

What’s The Problem?

We are looking for answers to simple questions about social issues related to youth, women, refugees, Romani people, homeless, disadvantaged people and their problems regarding mental health, poverty, violence, social exclusion and human rights.

  • Why Green?

We want to start from the basics: what is climate change, how does it affect us, what are the future consequences of it and who is responsible to act now? We match students’ questions with experts’ answers.

  • Alterophilia

Alterophilia explores the youth subcultures in Bulgaria today through documentary portraits, interviews and surveys, focusing on the social context in which young people shape their identity.

  • Poesia Perduta

Poesia Perduta is provoking the mass understanding of poetry today, especially among young people. The project explores the role of poetry in people's minds and aims to promote the poetry and messages of Bulgarian poets who left a mark in Bulgarian history.

Imagine Peace

Margherita Maria De Lorenzi (Italy), Maria Caratas (Romania) and our team invite international experts, lawyers, activists, scientists, community managers, journalists, and communication specialists to share their know-how and good practices on topics like human rights in times of war, domestic violence, environmental pollution, global warming, political correctness and freedom of expression, active citizenship, challenging the status quo, etc.

  • Women's Attitudes Survey

Women's Attitudes is a survey on gender relations, stereotypes, women’s experience with men and their anticipations from the relationships they have.

  • Lexicon

"Lexicon" explores the identities of teenagers in Bulgaria today. The way of life, world view and interests of young people speak about their social environment and outline the possible directions of their future.

Meet The Team.

It all began somewhere on the streets of Sofia. We had just wrapped up the retrospective exhibition of Mr. Roger Ballen (one of the most influential photographers of our time) at the National Gallery and City Art Gallery-Plovdiv. We felt our mission is to share the knowledge, curiosity and inspiration we have with those who need it. And that’s how Reflektor’s story began…

Mental health is vital.

"I believe that young people are the future," singer, songwriter, poet and Mercury Award winner Arlo Parks told Dazed last year. "I would like to inspire and encourage them to express themselves freely, boldly, and unapologetically: I want them to understand that to have empathy, care about things, and be sensitive is a gift."

Artwork by our creative producer and visual artist Vladislav Lepoev is part of the Arlo Parks Art Therapy Journal in support of CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) in the UK. Together we are paying it forward: we are already making the long-term Mindscapes dedicated to Bulgarian youth's mental health.

These trees are gone

Climate Visuals and TED Countdown are releasing 100 photographs that showcase climate solutions alongside the global impact of climate change. Part of the selection is one of our photographs from Pernik that was showcased at the TED Countdown Summit in Edinburgh, UK October 12-15, 2021 and was also featured prominently during the UN climate conference (COP26) in Glasgow, UK November 1-12, 2021.
