As a girl growing up in a working-class community, I know first hand what impact arts and culture could have on our personalities, wellbeing and future. Where the state has abdicated from its citizens, and family and school do more harm than help, we need to support ourselves by being inventive and flexible in the face of life's challenges. I can hardly see a better way to approach one's struggles than arming his character with the tools and knowledge the arts have given us. The ability to apply a radical imagination is what, to my mind, keeps humanity alive. I believe disrupting social injustices depends on how we address them and spread the word for action.
